Although the depiction of the metabolism of glyoxylate in Figure 1 of the article is correct, the figure does not show the generation of oxalate. The legend states that in hyperoxaluria types 1 and 2, accumulated glyoxylate is converted to oxalate. Since normal persons without hyperoxaluria make a fair amount of oxalate daily (to the point that some have crystals of calcium oxalate in their urine), any depiction of a pathway that involves the metabolism of glyoxylate must also show the generation of its end product, oxalate itself.
